No, it's just not the unemployed! Surprisingly, the majority of those without health insurance are hard-working men and  women who either are self-employed, work for a small business or a large corporation that can't afford to provide health  insurance coverage to its employees or the worker cannot afford the high premiums to cover their families. The statistics tell  the story of the more than 45 million Americans without health insurance, 80% are from working families, and they earn too  much to qualify for Medicaid, but not enough to afford health insurance for their families.  CHI is the only health care organization providing comprehensive primary and behavioral health care services to the  uninsured and underinsured population of South Miami-Dade County. CHI is part of a national network of Community Health Centers that provide quality primary health and behavioral health care  to residents in their communities.  How are charges determined at CHI? For those without health insurance, charges are based on your particular financial situation, documentation of family size  and income. For those with insurance, patients are required to pay a deductible and/or co-payment.  Just as in any doctor's  office.  What information is required toaccess services within the CHI system? Proof of identification, address and income for you and your family for sliding fee classification if uninsured. If insured,  please bring your insurance card. How can CHI afford to offer quality health care at reduced rates? CHI receives a portion of its funding from federal, state and county governments specifically to provide services at these  reduced fees to people who need them.These funding agencies include the Florida Department of Health; Florida Department  of Children and Families; HRSA, Bureau of Primary Health Care; and the Public Health Trust of Miami-Dade County, Florida.  Who uses CHI? Everyone is welcome to utilize our services, including those with insurance. Approximately 74% of our users are uninsured, but  increasingly CHI's services are being utilized by workers and families who are underinsured.  Is the quality of health care good at CHI? Yes. CHI offers exceptional quality health care to all of its patients. In addition, CHI doctors are board-certified, or board  eligible. Also, CHI's services are highly rated and  CHI is accredited by the Joint Commission (JC), the same organization that  accredits hospitals. How many locations does CHI have? Today, CHI is one of the largest community health care systems in the United States, providing comprehensive integrated primary and behavioral health care. CHI operates seven (7) state-of-art health centers, seventeen (17) school-  based health centers and  several outreach programs throughout South Florida. What geographic area is served?
