Julia Dean was born and raised in the South of England. She graduated from The Brighton School of Nursing in 1984 and The West Sussex School of Midwifery in 1987.She practiced full-scope midwifery care for two years before moving to Orlando.
In Orlando, she worked as a Registered Nurse and then became In-Patient Obstetric Nursing Certified.She worked in all aspects of maternity care, including perinatology, high-risk antepartum, labor and delivery, while helping set up a maternity home-visiting program.
Dean decided to make Florida her permanent home and pursue her career.She relocated and graduated from The University of Miami Jackson Memorial Hospital Recertification Program as a Certified Nurse Midwife.
In 1995, she started practicing as a Certified Nurse-Midwife with The University of Miami and Deering Hospital, and later with Jackson South Community Hospital.
She was awarded Advanced Nurse Practice Nurse of the Year in 2010 and completed training as a Sexual Health Nurse Examiner.
As a member of The American College of Nurse Midwives, she continues her commitment to women’s health at CHI.With more than 25 years of midwifery practice, she has attended more than 2,000 deliveries.
Dean, along with her husband and daughter, loves living in Miami.When at home, she enjoys spending time with her family. As a “softball mom” she can be heard cheering on her daughter’s team.She also enjoys reading and belongs to a lively book club.With all her family in Spain and England, she tries to visit them once a year.On her last trip, she managed to walk 60 miles of The West Highland Way in Scotland.
